In 1895, Gretsch who founded the same shop became slightly ill and passed on at the age of 39. After his death, his son, Fred Gretsch, Sr., who was fifteen years old then had to take over the family firm. In 1916, Fred Sir, through his hard work and savvy innovative techniques had moved the operations to a ten-story building at 60 Broadway found in the Williamsburg section in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Though was not enough, this was seen as a great move and positive response to the demands of the clients. Therefore, Fred gained a lot of trust and love from the musicians who found the guitars more than just appealing.
